Chairman's Speech Mr. Leung Wah Sing, BBS MH JP
The Mong Kok Kai Fong Association Ltd, established in 1951, originally located at Mong Kok Mactherson Football Pitch. In 1975, The Government granted the land of about ten thousands square feet at Fuk Tsun St., Tai Kok Tsui to build "The Mong Kok Kai Fong Assn. Ltd. Chan Hing Social Service Centre". Chan Hing Social Service Centre (The Centre) was commenced to provide social service in 1980. With the support of Social Welfare Department, the Centre has been providing integrative social service to all ages with the aim of caring for the community and meeting community needs. The Centre is built and managed by the Association. The Centre is a five-storeys building consisting of a community hall, meeting and activity rooms, reading and study room, elderly centre and clinics. For the past 70 years, we have been working with the spirit of "Mutual Help, Mutual Care, Mutual Support and Advocate for Change". We will continue to serve the community and provide activities "to succeed the goodness, to keep the pace with the society, to make progress and to develop a better future".
According to the history, Hung Shing Temple, situated in Tai Kok Tsui, originally was a temple in the Fuk Chuen Village which was located at the intersecting point of the Boundary Street and Tai Kok Tsui Road. In 1928, as the Government developed the area, the Fuk Chuen Village was to be clear. The Hing Shing Temple was moved to the present site in Fuk Tsun Street which was named after the Fuk Chuen Village. Every 13th February in Lunar calendar, people would organize a series of activities to thank Hung Shing for bringing luck and safe to them for the year. It became the traditional date of Hung Shing Festival.
Taking the opportunity in celebration of Hung Shing Festival, The Mong Kok Kai Fong Association organizes the "The Tai Kok Tsui Temple Fair" on 3rd November, 2024. The Fair is co-organized and sponsored by the Yau Tsim Mong District Office, aims at cultivating community interest in Chinese culture, arts and performances, fostering community support for tourism, promoting the development of local community economy and enhancing the sense of belonging of the residents. The Fair is held at Fuk Tsun Street, Tai Kok Tsui, in front of the Hung Shing Temple. The Fuk Tsun Street, Beech Street, Pine Street, Lime Street will be temporary closed for this Fair. The Fair includes Chinese cultural performances and Poon Choi Feast for thousands people. Moreover, there are booths for youth and people to sell their featured goods to echo government's promotion of community economy and to contribute to the prosperity of Hong Kong. There is a characterized performance of 500-feet Luminous Night Dragon Dance and the Traditional Puppetry Floats.
The Tai Kok Tsui Temple Fair could be completed successfully in the past years. I have to thank for all government departments, community organizations, local leaders and members of the Association for their support in donation and effort. I hope we can continue to organize Tai Kok Tsui Temple Fair every year to benefit more people in the community.
